WFS Announce New Virtual Events

New beginnings

Last year, the world completely changed. The coronavirus altered our plans to hold our 20th National Training and Development Event at the Fire Service College. And as key workers, our organisation and volunteer network was significantly impacted. To that end, we’re happy to announce we will be hosting a series of virtual events this year. Our first event takes place on Tuesday 16 February, 2021.

We hope that by providing online sessions for the foreseeable future will help bring our network and community together again and continue to build on the gender equality conversation.

– Jules King, WFS Chair

Transforming workplace culture

Choose to Challenge is a workshop focussed on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. It explores how middle managers can take responsibility to help transform the culture of the Fire and Rescue Service. The session consists of five group activities delivered by experts from across the sector, including representatives from our National Executive Committee (NEC).

Facilitators will deliver case studies covering critical issues raised by the HMICFRS State of Fire report. Our webinar style events will feature many high-profile presenters from the UK Fire and Rescue Service.

“When we decided to move WFS online, we thought deeply about how to create virtual events that would provide relevant and topical content. Increasingly important, with so many people looking for inspiration and guidance at a moment of huge upheaval. We hope providing online sessions for the foreseeable future will help bring our community together again, and continue to build on the equality conversation.

We’re keen to continue to offer our expertise whilst still providing our corporate members value for money on our events. Networking is the cornerstone of our annual physical event but online communities will still provide interactive and engaging experiences.”

  – Jules King, WFS Chair

“This is an exciting time for WFS as we are taking a new direction. We hope to stimulate some great conversation and share experiences around diversity and inclusion in the fire service. We hope you’ll join us on our journey to improve, educate and support each other during such an unusual time.”

– Caroline Anderson, WFS Vice-Chair
