We are looking for a skilled, adaptable, and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly and supportive team on a permanent basis. While the primary area of responsibility will be Breathing Apparatus (BA), there may be future opportunities for the redistribution of disciplines across the Station Managers within Learning and Development to ensure alignment with organisational needs, workloads, and training delivery.

As the Station Manager, Breathing Apparatus and Station Support you will lead a team to support our people through their training, development and assessments and to achieve their potential.  Your successful performance will help to ensure we have a capable and resilient workforce to deliver the services we provide to meet the diverse needs of the communities we serve.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and manage the design, delivery and implementation of effective learning and development activity to meet the needs of the operational workforce, assisting learners to gain additional knowledge,

understanding and skills that results from the effective planning, design, delivery and assurance of training events that align to organisational policies and procedures, and National Operational Guidance.

The key focus of this role (Key Responsibilities and Deliverables) is:

·         Manage and supervise the day-to-day delivery of training courses which support the maintenance of operational qualifications.

·         Manage and oversee quality assurance and standardisation processes within area of responsibility

·         Liaise with the other L&D SM’s, and support WM subject leads in the balanced use of WM instructors and resources

·         Assure the effective management of records for accreditation and audit, and provide support for WM subject leads in course evaluation to improve future training delivery

·         Performance manage line reports and ensure development opportunities are provided for staff to progress within their role and towards other roles as required

·         Oversee the maintenance and development of the Operational Training Planner and associated Learning Outcomes

·         Assist Group Manager L&D in producing and presenting written reports and presentations, consistent with the service’s expectations and standards to a range of audiences.

·         Supporting an inclusive and high performing culture.

·         Maintain competence in relation to operational command and support functions.

·         Providing operational cover at Level 2 of the service’s Incident Command System.

Key role requirements (knowledge, skills and experience):

·         Competent Crew Manager in receipt of CPD

·         Able to create and implement effective plans

·         Knowledge of the fundamental principles of learning and development

·         e.g. design, assessment, assessing needs and evaluation.

·         Have an understanding of National Operational Guidance (NOG) and it’s impacts on operational training

·         Interpersonal skills – able to develop good working relationships, lead

·         and influence people.

Stage Two: Behavioural and competency-based interview

Shortlisted candidates will be assessed for suitability for the role by means of a behavioural and competency-based interview alongside a role-based task.

Stage Two: Role-based task

Task details have been provided ahead of time to facilitate preparation. The role based task is that you will write a report (restricted to 3000 words) on a particular relevant subject, which If shortlisted, you will be required to present to the recruitment panel prior to your interview. You must submit the report by 9:00am on Friday 27th February 2026. If you are informed you have been shortlisted this should be sent via email to Recruitment@rbfrs.co.uk.

The role based task is that you will write a report (restricted to 3000 words) which you will deliver to the panel summarising the key points lasting no longer than 20 minutes on the following topic:

One of the key requirements of the role is prepare and deliver reports to GM (L&D) and appropriate forums

Please prepare a report evaluating the viability of implementing and delivering Tactical Ventilation within RBFRS. Your report should also outline what initial acquisition and implementation might involve, and describe how ongoing Maintenance of Knowledge and Skills could be effectively achieved.

• Your understanding and experiences in this area.

• What barriers and obstacles do you foresee and how could we overcome them.

• What are the opportunities when working collaboratively and how will you seek to deliver these.
