What happened at our 2025 National Training and Development Event…
On Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June 2025 230 delegates and 80 volunteers from 62 fire and rescue services and organisations in the UK and internationally gathered at the renowned Fire Service College for the Women in the Fire Service UK National Training and Development Event — a powerful and inspiring three-day event designed to develop skills, build confidence, and connect women across all roles within the fire sector.
Hosted at the UK’s leading fire sector training facility, the event offered an immersive and supportive environment where both operational and non-operational women in the fire service came together to learn, grow, and challenge themselves.
Some of the highlights of the event included:
- Taster sessions for non-operational staff, giving women working in support and administrative roles the opportunity to don fire kit and experience first-hand what it’s like to be a firefighter on the front line.
- Incident command workshops in the Fire Service College’s simulation suite tailored at operational firefighters, helping them hone decision-making, leadership, and communication skills in high-pressure simulated environments.
- Adrenaline-pumping abseiling sessions delivered by the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, offering participants the chance to build confidence, overcome fears, and push their physical limits.
The event, run by Women in the Fire Service UK (WFS), is part of an ongoing commitment to foster gender equality, create pathways for progression, and break down barriers for women in the sector. The weekend also featured networking opportunities, inspirational speakers, and practical development aimed at encouraging more women to consider and thrive in fire and rescue careers.
Hume Jones, Managing Director of Capita’s Fire Service College, said:
“We are delighted that once again the Fire Service College will be hosting the annual Women in the Fire Service UK National Training and Development Event. It is a fantastic opportunity to show our commitment to increasing diversity across the sector and support women firefighters from across the UK and beyond to network and practise and hone their skills on our world-class incident ground and in our new state of the art immersive learning suite.”
The WFS National Training and Development Event continues to grow year on year, providing a vital platform for collaboration and progression in one of the UK’s most respected public service sectors.
