London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London’s fire and rescue service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city.
LFB is looking for talented and experienced people with the relevant fire safety specialist knowledge, who are interested in a permanent opportunity in the Prevention and Protection’s Projects and Assurance team to fulfil our vacancies that have arisen.
The role of the Healthcare/Heritage Coordinator is key to ensuring these areas of London’s built environment are supported in their compliance with fire safety legislation. The successful applicants will be expected to keep fully appraised of technical Heritage/Healthcare knowledge and be committed to continuous learning and improvement. The role includes the support and development of staff within the LFB through professional competence standards. The coordinator(s) will support Team Leaders and officers with relevant qualifications and “Tags” in teams and departments to undertake their roles and responsibilities in line with personal development records (PDR), RBIP work and general fire safety duties.
The role includes but is not limited to the following areas of support and development:
• Providing and organising quarterly Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training for the role to ‘tagged’ officers to support their continual development.
• Supporting development in role; linking with Service Improvement to pre-plan courses to increase officers with the knowledge and understanding within the department.
• Maintaining complete and accurate electronic records for the role including maintaining the co-ordinator mailbox, including acting upon urgent business to resolve stakeholder requests.
• Working closely with the other co-ordinator to provide resilience between roles and covering each other when unavailable.
• Communications – Develop, Produce and maintain a the LFB intranet (Hotwire) and LFB communications page for internal and external stakeholder awareness and organisational learning.
• Developing and updating policy and procedures in response to new information or learning.
• Supporting Team Leaders of the eight area teams, with expert and field knowledge across the LFB (*if the department structure changes team members will be expected to cover those areas).
• Liaising with candidates to book in appointments, attend audits and provide development support.
• Carrying out research into premises and activities when required, for example; unwanted fire signals to provide education to the sector as well as updating LFB policy for improving procedures.
• To support appropriate teams with knowledge and skills which can then be reflected in logs for PDR development or CPD towards further learning.
• To undertake formal assessments of candidates, to assess skills, knowledge, organisational awareness and values.
• If required, to support the Development Officer team pan London with ongoing work to prepare candidates for assessments and undertaking these assessments.
• Attending meetings with external agencies and bodies, (example – NHS England, English Heritage, National Trust etc) and sharing any updates with relevant teams and departments.
Candidates will work towards becoming technical experts in their role and its processes matters which will assist them in supporting all area teams.

There are 2 permanent positions. They are interlinked for department and role resilience. The position’s base location is at LFB Headquarters in Central London; however, the work undertaken will involve working with all teams and departments and therefore requires pan London working. It is essential that those interested maintain relevant fire safety knowledge and skills as well as their additional qualifications to undertake their specific roles e.g. HTM qualification for Healthcare.
Applicants must have the appropriate qualification for role – Healthcare and/or heritage background qualification. Including L4 Diploma in Fire Safety.

Stage 1

Stage 2
Presentation and Interview: The role of a coordinator will at times require them to present to groups of internal and external stakeholders.
Please prepare a 10-minute presentation regarding the role of a co-ordinator (heritage and/or healthcare) include what qualities, skills and attributes you will bring to the role.
You can present the information in any format that you feel comfortable with, i.e. flip chart, Power Point etc.
The interview will follow the presentation and will be based around your suitability for the role utilising the LFB values.
