London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London’s fire and rescue service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city. Employing over 5000 people across our operational team (our firefighters), control (our call handlers who answer 999 calls), fire safety and our non-operational team (our team who work behind the scenes to support our front-line services, which includes Fleet, IT, HR, Finance, Procurement, Communications team and many more).
As a FLEET Technical Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring that the Brigade achieves best value, performance and compliance across its vehicle fleet and operational equipment. Working within the Fleet Liaison Engineering & Equipment Team (FLEET) and reporting to the Fleet and Equipment Monitoring Manager, you will provide technical support, monitor contractor performance, and contribute to the safe and effective operation of one of the world’s largest emergency service fleets.

Eligibility
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
Eligibility to work in the UK at the time of application.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain an LGV Class C licence.
Willingness to participate in the Duty Transport Officer out-of-hours standby rota.
Ability to travel across London and attend operational locations as required.
Applicants should also be willing and able to:
Work collaboratively with contractors, operational users and external partners.
Attend Head office on a regular basis.
Comply with London Fire Brigade policies including Health & Safety, Equality and confidentiality requirements.
Successfully complete pre-employment checks including BPSS clearance.
Assessment Overview
Stage 1

1. Completion of a recognised apprenticeship in heavy commercial vehicle or firefighting equipment maintenance, supported by relevant City & Guilds qualifications (or equivalent), is strongly preferred and will be a significant advantage at shortlisting. Candidates should demonstrate experience as a skilled technician within a related workshop environment, including a strong understanding of required standards and quality of workmanship. Applicants with substantial equivalent experience and alternative qualifications will be considered; however, those meeting this criterion are likely to be prioritised.
2. Experience in commercial vehicles and/or firefighting equipment operations and maintenance or possession of similar skill levels gained through other training and/or relevant experience, coupled with in-depth knowledge of the Motor Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations and other relevant transport legislation.
3. Experience of carrying out technical investigations, analysis and testing, with the ability to produce detailed engineering reports and specifications
4. Experience of using a range of information technology applications together with good keyboard skills and an understanding of the ways IT applications could be utilised in an office environment

Criminal records check
